Sharon lives in Somerset but is originally from Slough in Berkshire. Her professional background has been predominantly in the Early Years Care and Education sector. Sharon has been involved with running her own Early Years business as a Childminder and also worked in the private, Voluntary and Independent sector as a Pre School Manager. The Pre-school expanded under Sharon’s management to include a Breakfast and After School club and move from premises in a village hall onto a school site. She has also had an extensive career with the Local Authority as an Early Years Advisor. Sharon’s particular interest in working with EAL children began in 2013 when she was involved in starting up the Somerset Early Years EAL Advisory Team. This project was commissioned by Somerset County Council to meet the growing needs of Early Years providers in Somerset. The team consists of 2 Advisors, who work directly with staff in settings as well as a small team of Admin support. Over the last 7 years the service has evolved and developed and produced a range of training material and resources to support practitioners, including 3 films, a toolkit and EAL “flashcards”.
As part of this role Sharon has written several articles for Early Years publications and has been a speaker at local and National Conferences.
