We discussed the EAL proficiency codes and the implications of the latest advice received regarding data collection for the census which was sent out to multi academy trusts and local authorities.
Debbie Graham, EAL Co-ordinator at Old Bexley CE Primary School, spoke with much enthusiasm about a recent trip to Mantra Lingua to look at resources they offer for primary children learning with EAL and included her personal recommendations for products that they promote.
Ann Horton shared her many years of experience working with secondary pupils with EAL and about her work at Lambeth Academy.
Wendy McKenzie-Ingle spoke about the Conversation Café which she runs for parents of students with EAL. She set this up for parents of students in Yr7 & 8. Parents and their daughters and siblings come along and get to know each other, her, enjoy refreshments and pick up booklets with subject-specific vocabulary, etc. It is a relaxed way of getting to know people and builds up links with the community.
