Join NATE’s Multicultural & Diversity Group and writers, Leena Dhingra and Steve Roberts to explore multicultural texts, identity and how to decolonise the curriculum through creativity.
Agenda
- NATE’s Multi-cultural & Diversity Working Group
Valerie Coultas & Stuart Scott (Join Chairs of NATE’s MCD Working Group) will provide an overview of the group, creative suggestions for the curriculum and details of their new project on how to make multicultural teaching resources.
- Leena Dhingra (Actor & Writer)
Leena Dhingra will read her short story, The Girl Who Couldn’t See Herself, which explores issues connected with identity and invisibility. Delegates will be able to share their thoughts on teaching about these themes.
- Steve Roberts (Poet & Writer)
Steve will read an extract from his short story written in Dominican dialect entitled, Ole Man River. Steve will also explore how we might decolonise creative writing by enabling students to write their own decolonised piece.
- The final session will be a round-table discussion where participants can share their own practice in using multicultural texts in different phases of education.
