Agenda
Updates from NALDIC and The Bell Foundation
Guest Speakers:
Dr Virginia Lam, Senior Lecturer, School of Psychology, University of Roehampton
Virginia’s interests in social and developmental psychology currently include the ‘Growing up bilingual’ project (funded by the ESRC). This project included collaborations with colleagues from Education and partnered with schools through the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education. GUB work focuses on tracking the language proficiency/use of outcomes of bilingual children who attend complementary (language) school and those who do not. We are delighted to have Virginia share some of GUB’s recent research activities with the RIG.
Ruth Durant, CEO of Richmond EAL Friendship Group
Ruth has an extensive background in teaching children, young people and adults in several London boroughs as well as in Israel. She has presented at the Institute of Linguists, BBC World Service, SOAS, Oxford, Roehampton and Kingson Universities. Ruth’s life work has focussed on bringing people together from all backgrounds and groups, to transcend traditional barriers and celebrate diversity.
Her Richmond EAL Friendship Group focuses on:
- advancing the education of adults with EAL in particular (but not exclusively) through language/literacy teaching
- promoting social inclusion, particularly for people for whom English is an additional language
- assisting in provision of social and recreational facilities and activities for those who may be facing financial hardship and/or social exclusion.
There is no charge for this event. Look forward to seeing you!
