Theme: Toddlers, Tech and Talk: Understanding very young children's digital experiences at home
Convenor/s: Early Years SIG
Are you interested in the role and impact ‘Tech’ may have on our youngest children’s language acquisition?
If so, please join us on March 19th 4:30 – 5:30pm to hear Dr Lorna Arnott, Reader in Social and Cultural Childhood Studies at the Strathclyde Institute of Education, present findings from her involvement in a recent ESRC funded study: 0-3-year-old children’s language and literacy learning at home in a digital age (Toddlers, Tech and Talk).
Lorna’s presentation will showcase the rich digital experiences of very young children in UK family homes. The data shared will draw on 40 qualitative case studies from across the four UK nations, and 60 interviews from parents and practitioners, to articulate how technology is used for language development, literacy learning, supporting intergenerational relationships, maintaining cultural traditions as well as play and cognitive development. Lorna will also articulate how parents were able to carefully curate and scaffold children’s digital learning experiences in the home learning environment.
