In the first part of this working paper we provide a brief account of Mohan’s knowledge framework and its relevance to teaching second language pupils in the mainstream. In the second part we describe how Mohan’s framework was applied in the preparation and delivery of a secondary science lesson from the perspective of a language support teacher. We will conclude by making some observations about the merits and our experience in adopting this approach in the mainstream context.
