Description
The focus for this edition of NALDIC Quarterly is teacher professional development and learning. The changing climate over the last few years means that much of the support provided by local authorities or the National Strategies no longer exists. However, it is clear from the NALDIC inbox and feedback from colleagues that there is still considerable demand from practitioners, both those experienced in supporting the language and learning needs of children and young people learning EAL and those who want to ensure they understand and know how to support EAL development. Some of these are practitioners with learners of EAL in their classes for the first time but many are teachers and teaching assistants who want to enhance their knowledge and skills and ensure that they are up-to-date with the latest thinking. The importance of meeting face to face to share and exchange understanding and strategies should not be underestimated and is clearly evident in the numbers attending and the feedback received at the two regional interest group meetings reported on in this edition. The
evaluations from the NADIC Conference also clearly show the thirst for knowledge remains high.
